Oral cancer is one of the few types of cancer that has not decreased in incidence over the past several decades. In fact, recent statistics by the American Cancer Society indicate that while the incidence and death rates for cancers overall has decreased, the incidence of oral cancer has increased by 5.5% and the death rate has increased by 1.5%. Research suggests that oral cancer is now caused by the sexually-transmitted human papilloma virus, or HPV. In addition, tobacco and alcohol use are risk factors for oral cancer.
With Vizilite and VELscope technology, we can spot lesions unable to be seen with the naked eye alone—leading to earlier detection and better outcomes. Screenings are quick, easy, non-invasive and radiation-free.
Knowing the risks factors and oral cancer screenings can help fight this deadly disease. We would be happy to provide more information or schedule an appointment.
